I'm A Star
By Don Hobbs

I have written about my oldest daughter Kelly Hamill in other articles. She earned her Master's Degree in Library Science a couple of years ago and is currently the librarian for an elementary school in Allen, Texas. She has control of what books are bought for the library and the decor of the library. A couple of weeks ago Kelly took a picture of me reading Les Klinger's Annotated Sherlock Holmes and using magic, inserted the word "READ" in big block,  hound's-tooth  letters which matched my deer stalker.

When the poster was hung on the library wall, one of her inquisitive kids asked her about it. Kelly has told these kids in  the past about my book collection and they were in disbelief when she told them that it was her father in the picture. Soon, there was a group of sixth graders gathered around Kelly and the poster, arguing that I was too old to be her husband. No, no, Kelly explained. I was her father, not her husband. She finally convinced them of her parentage. Next they wanted to know where all of my books were as there was only one in the picture.

For making me a star of her library, Kelly, and her husband, Kurt,  received a break from their 2 daughters. Joyce and I decided to keep Madison and Emily over the weekend. Both of the granddaughters love going upstairs to the library. I always have fun photographing their visits and this time was no different. I took the picture below on Valentine's Day, Maybe Kelly can make another poster and make Madison and Emily stars. And maybe she can convince those sixth graders that I really do have all of those books.

Happy Collecting!!
