Wild Hogs

One will remember that in “The Adventure of the Solitary Cyclist,” Miss Violet Smith went to great lengths to discover why a second cyclist was following her upon her cycling jaunts. In the recent investigation of the movie “Wild Hogs,” there is no mystery at all as to a similar question. Why is the cycling John Travolta followed by Tim Allen, Martin Lawrence, and William H. Macy? Because he needs all the help he can to keep the “Wild Hogs” moving.

“Wild Hogs” is a silly little male mid-life crisis movie that I’m sure will strike a chord with all the middle-aged Harley riders that seem to have popped up as the Baby Boomers noticed that they’re not going to live forever. While it might not be a good John Travolta movie, it’s actually very good for a Tim Allen movie. Martin Lawrence is actually funnier as a lead, and William H. Macy’s considerable talents aren’t really put to work here. But all in all, “Wild Hogs” has enough packed into it to make it a somewhat amusing way to kill a couple hours in a theater.

As a movie investigator, this is the sort of harmless light comedy that one is tempted to really take a poke at, but it’s really not too bad.

What great-grandfather Sherlock would have said:
“If you could have looked into Allardyce's back shop, you would have seen a dead pig swung from a hook in the ceiling, and a gentleman in his shirt sleeves furiously stabbing at it with this weapon.”
