This That and the Other I had a little note back from our Grand Webmaster, Brad Keefauver, following the submission of last week’s article. He asked if I could have this week’s article by Thursday due to an impending trip he was taking to Colorado. So now the pressure was on me to come up with something worthy of Sherlockpeoria ahead of time in stead of squeezing in under the deadline. I have been in California for the past two weeks so my brain has been fried with learning and training a newer version of my company’s software. I have had hardly any time to think about the Master, let alone coming up with something new and fresh and early to boot. I went back to the archives of Sherlockpeoria and re-read several of my earlier articles. This was a mixed bag of the good, the bad, and the ugly. My thought was to possibly rehash something earlier or at least revisit some obscure Sherlockian point I was trying to make back in ought-two or ought-three. The only thing that really jumped out at me was the fact the Sherlockpeoria volume 1 number 1 was June 02, 2002! I am always amazed when another anniversary rolls around. In one month, we will have doing this for five complete years! As I have said before, I thought we could sustain it for maybe six months, tops. Of course, none of this helped me arrive at a topic for my “Early- deadline”, did it? This week, I am training people how to read digital mammograms, which were just recently approved by the F.D.A. It is a paradigm shift for everyone who is used to reading analog or filmed studies. Digital mammography offers images in such high detail that detection of breast cancer can made at a much earlier stage. One of my co-workers just found out his wife’s breast cancer had returned after two-years of being cancer-free. He is one of our newer employees but he quickly endeared himself to all of us. Another compartment of my brain has been concerned about him and his wife, so thoughts related to Sherlockpeoria are being shoved further inside. The N.B.A. playoffs are in full swing as well. My team ended the regular season with the best record in the league. This meant they earned the privilege in the playoffs to play the team with the eighth best record. Never in the history of the N.B.A. has the number 8 team beat the number 1 team in a best of seven series. Well the afore mentioned number 8 team promptly streaked to a 3 to1 lead in the series before my team won game 5. Now my team has to win the remaining two games if they want to continue playing basketball this year. That critical game 6 just happens to be on Thursday night. Again, the night I am supposed to have my next article to Brad. With all of this pressure building I am seriously thinking about telling Brad I cannot possibly get a new article to him by the “Early-Deadline”. I will tell him some sob-story about there’s too much going on in my little life to write another article but since I try to maintain a good work-ethic, I suppose I will try to find something to write about. Happy Collecting!! Editor's Postscript: Having pushed Don for an early submission, the "Grand Webmaster" then failed to get his own act together in time, so this week's pages are actually a little late. |
