The Great Whimsical Sherlockian Tour Those of you who are regular readers of Sherlockpeoria or those with enough ambition to go to the archives, will recall that back in naught–five I lead a group of brave hearted Sherlockians on a journey nearly 1,895 miles long through Oklahoma and Texas. We endured sweltering heat, suspicious stares, and near mutiny to make a trip unlike any other in the annals of the Sherlockian world. The adventure was memorialized in video and now it will return for one last bow. It turns out that the video of the tour has enjoyed some private showings in New York City. Carol Fish is on the planning committee for the Gaslight Gala and she recently saw part of the video as some New York City she-she soirée viewing salon, or maybe it was at some other Sherlockians apartment, but she liked what she saw. Carol has offered us a chance to show the video during this year’s gala, the only caveat was the 61-minute piece needs to be edited down to 15-minutes. Before I committed to the offer, I wanted to run it past the other hardy souls who were part of the tour. I not only got thumbs-up from the four surviving members of the tour but I also got verbal commitments that they would all be in New York City in January for the Gaslight Gala and the rest of the festivities of the Birthday Celebration Weekend. There was more than fifty hours of video shot during the 4 days of The Great Whimsical Sherlockian Tour of Oklahoma and Texas. It took months and months of editing to get it down to 4 hours. It was another difficult and very tedious process to get it down to it’s present length of 61 minute. Paring it down to the requested 15 minutes would be like deciding to trim the Canon down to just 15 stories. I am not sure if I could do it but I will have a 15 minute version of the tour ready for the Gaslight Gala. It will have taken 30 months but we will finally get out 15 minutes of fame and on Broadway to boot. Happy Collecting!!
