Sherlocking With French Canadian Pulps There are many foreign language translations of the Canon that are not recorded in any of the printed bibliographies. This is the reasoning behind The Galactic Sherlock Holmes and it is truly a never-ending project. The latest version 8.7 is 660 pages long. I will be adding another 6-8 pages in the next few days because of incoming packages. It would be a monumental but equally rewarding project if some enterprising Sherlockian would attempt the same kind of bibliography for the English variations of the Canon and the cover illustrations. I visited Mysterious Books in January and came across Mon Magazine Policier vol.3 no.7. I was not aware of the publication but opened it up and to my delight found it contained a French translation of A Study in Scarlet. The magazine was published in July 15, 1943 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. My interest was piqued and after a little digging I found that Quebec was the center of the Canadian pulp magazine industry in the mid 1940's. There was not any information regarding the contents only a brief mention that they used stories by Conan Doyle, Agatha Christie, Leslie Chartris, and other such authors. I have continued to search ebay regularly since January and my perseverance paid off recently. I found a dealer who was offering a large collection of Mon Magazine Policiers. I am happy to report that I was successful in winning all of the issues with Sherlock Holmes stories in them except one.
Here is a list of Mon Magazine Policiers that have at least one Sherlock Holmes story: Maybe some of the readers from the Great White North can shed some more light on the subject of Canadian Pulps. There are likely more volumes with Sacred Writings in them. I hope to hear that there are so I can add them to my collection and The Galactic Sherlock Holmes database. Until then...... Happy Collecting!
