In Spite of Myself: A Memoir by Christopher Plummer In Spite of Myself, a memoir is the title of the new autobiography by Christopher Plummer, published by Alfred A. Knopf. Here is the life story of the man from the Great White North who broke onto the scene in the late 40's and early 50's and reached the ultimate of success in 1977, when he starred as Sherlock Holmes in Silver Blaze. Who could forget Thorley Walters as Dr. Watson? I have. He would play Sherlock Holmes once more in 1979 in Murder By Decree along side James Mason as Dr. Watson. Of these were the most important facts in this wonderful book that is 648 pages and not nearly enough illustrations. There is one picture of Plummer as Holmes. Of course there is a lot of other information inside like his great-grand father was the countries first native born Prime Minister. I sure he put this in the book to help sale up there where their dollar is a good as our is, well nearly equal. We also see his views on the Great Canadian sport of drinking. So if you are willing to shell out $29.95 for the book, you will be paying a little over 4 1/2 cents per page and you won't find out anything more about Plummer and Sherlock Holmes that I have already told you, but if you love the theatre, I suppose you will find this book right up your 42nd Street. It is a bit ironic that Mr. Plummer has never won an Academy Award. He has certainly tried. I mean he can be seen in such great roles other than Sherlock Holmes. He was Rudyard Kipling in The Man Who Would Be King in 1975 and Dr. Rosen in A Beautiful Mind. Mr. Plummer is not to be confused with Joe the Plummer mentioned several time during the recent presidential election, although they could be distantly related. Well, Happy Collecting!!
